Biography

Prof. Olawale Oluyemi John holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Materials Engineering, and a B.Sc. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He is a Registered Engineer and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Materials Science and Technology Society of Nigeria (MSN).

He is an accomplished researcher and academic whose work spans Production Metallurgy, Materials Characterization, Mechanics of Materials and Failure Analysis. His work in production metallurgy examines process optimization and microstructure-property relationships in metallic systems. In materials characterization, he applies advanced analytical techniques to evaluate composition, structure and behaviour of engineering materials.

Prof. Olawale has published widely in reputable peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings, contributing to advancing sustainable production practices and enhancing the reliability and safety of engineering materials and components.

Biography

Professor Lasisi Ejibunu Umoru joined OAU in March 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose to become Professor of Materials Science and Engineering on October 1, 2011. He holds a B.Sc. Tech. (Hons.) in Materials Science and Technology from FUTO, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from OAU (1990 and 2001). He also holds a Certificate in Subsea Technology (OAU, 2003).

He has published over 80 scholarly articles, holds 4 patents, and has been awarded competitive research grants including the TETFund NRF and IBR Grants. He has supervised numerous Masters and PhD candidates across OAU and UNIUYO, with mentees making significant contributions in academia, industry and the banking sector.

Biography

Oladeji Oluremi Ige is a materials scientist and engineer working at the intersection of corrosion science, materials informatics, and AI-driven governance of mineral resources. He is based in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, and holds the position of Research Associate in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Durban University of Technology, South Africa. He is currently a Visiting Researcher at Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland (2026). His research has been shaped by a decade of international engagements across the UK, the United States, and South Africa.

His research bridges the gap between experimental characterization and data science to tackle material degradation. He focuses on how materials fail under severe industrial conditions, creating predictive tools to govern these patterns and support extractive sectors throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Nigeria's hydrocarbon resource environments are the recurring site of his investigations.

He publishes widely in peer-reviewed journals and has held research grants, serving as both Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. A registered engineer with COREN, he is a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Materials Society of Nigeria (MSN), and the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM).

Biography

Professor Moṣọbalájé Oyebamiji Adeoye is a COREN registered engineer and a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He has been training and mentoring engineers in Materials Science and Engineering for close to forty years at OAU.

He holds a B.Sc. in Engineering Physics, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, all from Obafemi Awolowo University. He also holds a Professional Certificate in Subsea Technology and a Professional Certificate in Pipeline Design and Installation.

His major areas of interest and research are in Materials Development and Materials Characterization. He is actively involved in technical training of Subsea Engineers with FEDDO Integrated Services Limited, FEDDO Group, Perth, Australia, in the area of Materials Failure Analysis and Prevention. He has over eighty technical research publications and invited papers to his credit.

Biography

Prof. Atanda holds a B.Sc. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as well as an MBA from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

He joined the services of Obafemi Awolowo University as a Lecturer II in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering on 18th November 2002 and rose through the ranks to full Professor on 1st October 2021. He is a COREN Registered Engineer and a member of NSE, NMS, and MSN.

His areas of research are in foundry, mechanical metallurgy and corrosion engineering, with special focus on materials development and characterization. He has worked extensively on the production technology and characterization of ductile iron and austempered ductile irons (ADI). He is a committed member of the ADI and Corrosion Engineering Research Groups.

Prof. Atanda is currently investigating the nucleation stage of grey cast iron with graphite flakes, as well as liquid carburizing of low carbon/low alloy steel using the Durofer process in the cyanide bath.

Biography

Prof. Moshood Dehinde Shittu is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and a COREN registered Engineer at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering as a Lecturer II in June 2009 and rose through the ranks to his current position. He has thirty-five technical research publications to his credit.

His current research interest is in the areas of foundry production and processes, simulation and modelling, and materials characterization and development. He has taught many undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Phase Diagrams, Physical Metallurgy, Crystallography, Extractive Metallurgy, Materials Forming and Manufacturing Processes, Foundry Technology, Industrial Management, and Selection of Materials and Economics.

Biography

Dr. Abraham Adewale Adeleke obtained his PhD in Materials Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He is an acknowledged international researcher with more than fifty articles in reputable journals and conference proceedings.

His research focus is in mineral processing and hydrometallurgy. He developed a coal blend formulation that incorporated appreciable amounts of selected local non-caking coals. He has also supervised and co-supervised research on locally sourced ores of gold, iron, niobium and copper, resulting in characterization of these ores and laboratory-scale flowcharts for the recovery of mineral values.

He was a Research Fellow at Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, and served as Non-resident Professor, Research and Innovation. He has taught courses including Mineral Processing, Hydrometallurgy, and Metallurgical Thermodynamics. He was a former Director, Industrial Training Coordinating Unit (ITCU) at OAU.

His research focuses on materials characterization and evaluation, embedded with strategic approaches to materials selection that account for service conditions. This spans corrosion, heat treatment, and the evaluation of material performance through mechanical testing (Tensile, Hardness) and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques such as Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic testing.

His work extends into subsea technology and also encompasses procurement and sustainable environmental management in the areas of engineering equipment and materials selection.

His research and publications are presently focused on Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy. His work on the extraction of copper powder by a hybrid system of mineral processing techniques and hydrometallurgical processes has been documented and published in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He also aspires to expand into materials development and characterization for a wider scope in his academic career.

Biography

Dr. Dayo A. Isadare is an Associate Professor and researcher in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He specializes in physical metallurgy, materials characterization, mineral processing, comminution engineering, and the development of sustainable engineering materials.

Prior to joining OAU as Lecturer I in 2016, Dr. Isadare served as a Research and Development Officer at the Prototype Engineering Development Institute, Ilesa, NASENI. He subsequently broadened his international research experience through a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Saskatchewan, Canada, engaging in interdisciplinary research spanning materials engineering, metallurgy, and advanced manufacturing.

He is actively engaged in microstructure-design of metallic alloys for defense, aerospace and automotive applications. His research focuses on understanding the relationships between processing, microstructure, and properties of metallic, composite, and mineral-based materials for industrial applications. His scholarly contributions encompass heat treatment of aluminum alloys, graphite-resin composite electrodes, phosphate rock beneficiation, grindability studies, and the characterization of indigenous mineral resources.

Biography

Dr. Modupe Grace Oyatogun obtained her Ph.D., M.Sc., and B.Sc. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. She is an active and acknowledged international researcher.

Her research and publications are focused on biomaterials development and characterization. Her work in surface engineering established the effects of surface modifications on interactions of silicon with cancer cells, with results published in refereed journals and conference proceedings.

Her research on the design, synthesis and characterization of biomaterials from minerals, agricultural and marine waste is targeted at dental and orthopedic applications, particularly the development of scaffolds for bone regeneration. Her drug delivery research focuses on the design, synthesis and characterization of biopolymers from agricultural and marine waste for sustained and targeted drug delivery.

Elijah Femi Ayandokun is a Lecturer II and PhD candidate in Materials Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University with specialization in physical metallurgy, corrosion engineering, heat treatment, and extractive metallurgy.

His doctoral research focuses on the effects of austempering parameters on the cryogenic behaviour, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties of Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI). He holds degrees in Materials Science and Engineering and is actively involved in teaching and research within the field of materials engineering.

His research interests span materials characterization, extractive metallurgy, and computational materials science, with a particular focus on understanding the relationships between processing, microstructure, and material performance. He is also interested in the application of computational techniques and data-driven approaches to materials design, process optimization, and the development of advanced engineering materials.

Biography

Prof. Olusegun Emmanuel Olorunniwo is a COREN registered engineer and a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He has been training and mentoring engineers in Materials Science and Engineering for close to thirty-five years at OAU.

He is a visiting researcher and examiner to the Department of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa. He is also actively involved in technical training of Subsea Engineers with FEDDO Integrated Services Limited, FEDDO Group, Perth, Australia, in the area of Materials Selection and corrosion prevention principles.

His major areas of interest and research are in Materials Development, Materials Characterization, and Pipeline Corrosion Maintenance Engineering. He has over seventy technical research publications and invited papers to his credit.

Biography

Engr. Dr. Bolaji Aremo is a COREN registered engineer and a Reader (Associate Professor) of Materials Science and Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He has over twenty years of experience in research and academia, training and mentoring engineers in theory and practicals.

His specialty is in precision metal casting, electrochemistry, and materials characterisation. He holds a Professional Certificate in Subsea Technology and is a member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
